Crew & allies

Meet the Crew.

Learn about the crew of the Stubborn Dawn through a brief description of each of them.

01

The Ghost / Former Rebel Front Commander

Blymer Stewart

A survivor of Ythera rebuilt with cybernetics after war took much of his body, Blymer begins as Neon-Chasm's armored street legend and becomes the crew's reluctant command center. His old failures, his lost Apex gunship, and Varek's expanding architecture of control keep forcing him back into leadership. Across the seven-book arc, his defining choice is to protect people without turning any of them into an acceptable sacrifice.

The streets called him a ghost because they did not know what else to call a man who walked through gunfire.
02

Intelligence Operative / The Black Sparrow

Mira Steel

Known as the Black Sparrow and the Woman Between Doors, Mira is an intelligence operative who reads exits, false routes, and the motives people try to hide. Her pursuit of Varek grows into the strategic spine of the crew's campaign, while her refusal to abandon prisoners, civilians, or Blymer turns caution into a form of loyalty. She is often the first to recognize that evidence matters only if someone survives to carry it.

The Black Sparrow. The Woman Between Doors.
03

Pilot / Engineer / Galactic Archaeologist

Orrulun Marrick

Orrulun is a pilot, engineer, treasure hunter, and galactic archaeologist who treats impossible routes as personal invitations. He maps fractured space, translates ancient machinery, and helps turn Blymer's dead Apex gunship into the Stubborn Dawn. The jokes are camouflage for an exacting mind and a fierce loyalty: when the galaxy offers a locked door, Orrulun is usually already calculating how fast he can fly through it.

The pilot used humor as a lockpick.
04

Rebel Front Intelligence / Undercover Operative

Cassan Vale

Cassan enters the story at Anchorwell disguised as an intelligence clerk inside Voss's prison. Guarded, observant, and carrying records dangerous enough to get him executed, he quietly helps Blymer, Mira, and Orrulun coordinate their escape before choosing the harder work of staying with them. Aboard the Stubborn Dawn he becomes the crew's intelligence watch, turning compromised archives and enemy habits into warnings they can act on.

The cover had saved him more than once and nearly killed him twice.
05

Doctor / Field Medic / Splinter Cell Omega

Dr. Kessondra Ordell

A former Splinter Cell Omega medic and one of the few people who knew Blymer and Orrulun before the crew was scattered, Kessondra first finds Blymer alive through a medical-paperwork trail and risks a flagged channel to warn Orrulun. When she returns to the old family aboard the Stubborn Dawn, she becomes its medical authority and moral ballast—treating allies, prisoners, and enemies with the same refusal to let command make a life disposable.

Anyone who died without permission would answer to her personally.
06

Engineer / Mechanic / The Swamp Warden

Tess Varo

On Vervain, Tess is known as the swamp warden—the mechanic who can hear when an engine lies and make dead machinery confess. Sharp-eyed, sharper-tongued, and equipped with a cybernetic arm, she joins the crew by helping salvage and rebuild Blymer's buried Apex gunship. Tess takes the aft engineering station aboard the Stubborn Dawn and becomes the person trusted to argue with ancient systems until they work, or break them before they can hurt her crew.

The woman who made dead engines confess.
07

Navigation Support / Maintenance Unit

Xeno

Factory-designated R4-X1, Xeno served Omega as Nav-Bot support and an auxiliary hull-repair unit until the squad gave him a name. Recovered from the lost gunship on Vervain, his heavy cylindrical frame carries damaged archives, route logic, and a quiet dignity that survives decades of silence. Xeno can calculate a foldspace jump while dragging a wounded soldier clear, and the crew treats him as what he has always been: family, never equipment.

Omega called him Xeno because a squad that gave everyone a callsign was not about to let a bot stay a serial number.
08

Maintenance Unit / Breach and Hull Support

Rift

R3-F2 earned the name Rift by finding openings where no sensible person saw one—doors, vents, rules, and occasionally emotional boundaries. The compact cream-and-orange maintenance unit once held a failing blast door open long enough for civilians to escape, and after his recovery on Vervain he brings the same reckless ingenuity to the Stubborn Dawn. Mischief and courage overlap in Rift so completely that the crew rarely knows which one they are dealing with until the door opens.

He kept finding openings where no sane person saw one. Mostly doors.
09

MD-7 Medical Unit / Shipboard Clinical Support

Maddox

Maddox is the tall white MD-7 medical unit awakened inside the restored gunship's medbay. Precise, outspoken, and immediately unimpressed by the crew's triage habits, he scans injuries, writes regulations no one agreed to follow, and works beside Kessondra as the Stubborn Dawn's tireless clinical support. His formal disapproval hides a protective streak: he notices the wound, the exhaustion, and the dangerous silence before most of the crew will admit any of them exist.

Designation MD-7 is accurate but impolite.
